The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) has been around since the early ’90s, but didn’t gain main stream success until the end of the millennium. Once the popularity of the UFC started to grow, they decided to expand their business beyond the octagon, and video games was the obvious choice.
The first UFC video game, simply titled “Ultimate Fighting Championship,” came out in 2000 to mostly great reviews. It still holds a score of 88 on Metacritic. Since then there have been many UFC games, and almost all have had commercial success.
Since EA Sports acquired the licensing rights from THQ back in 2012, they have published three of the fighting games. The most recent, “EA Sports UFC 3,” was released Jan 30, and today they are starting the limited-time release of its “Icon Edition.”
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) today provided the best reason yet to step inside UFC’s world-famous Octagon® with the launch of EA SPORTS UFC 3 Icon Edition, headlined by UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, whose record 11 successful title defenses are the most in UFC history. In addition to delivering standout features like the new G.O.A.T. Career mode and Real Player Motion Tech that revolutionizes character movement, the Icon Edition adds legendary and fan-requested fighters such as UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz, former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra, former PRIDE FC middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva, former PRIDE FC world open-weight grand prix champion Mirko Cro Cop and fan favorite Kimbo Slice. Current EA SPORTS UFC 3 owners will also receive all five of the new legendary athletes that were added and more key gameplay updates for free in today’s content release.
“This one is for all the hard working gamers out there.
