I was fortunate to demo quite a few amazing games at PAX. This year certainly has a lot in store for gamers! Here are highlights from some them.

Falcon Age

This is a VR game that is about a lady and her falcon. This was one of my most anticiapted games for PAX East, and it did not dissapoint! Your falcon will assist you in gather items and dispatching foes. Your falcon can take enemies by surprise which is useful. The controls associated with commanding the falcon are simple and ituititive. The game is gorgeous. I really enjoyed demoing Falcon Age! It will be out on April 9th for PS4 and PSVR. If you have PSVR, this is a must play.

Silence: The Whispered World II

This is a 3D point and click adventure that features three playable characters. I don’t want to give away too much of the sory, but it’s tragic and involves a young buy and his younger sister. Everything in the game was drawn by hand which gives it an organic feel. I really liked what I played and can’t wait to play more. It has been out on some platforms for a while but it’s coming to Nintendo Switch in early April. Keep an eye out for Silence: The Whispered World II.

The Long Journey Home

As it’s name implies, The Long Journey Home is a game about journeying back to Earth. In it, you command a space ship that failed to make light speed jump home. You will have to gather resources in order to make the long trip one system and planet at a time. You have a crew of four that help you on the journey. There are a few types of gameplay involved which will keep things interesting. In order to land on a planet, you have to actually enter orbit successfully. Traversing the cosmos is unique in that you actually see your trajectory and need to adjust it to avoid collissions. One mistake can prove fatal in which case you will have to start over. Beware though as each run through is procedurally generated based on the letters of a code you enter at the start of a the game. The Long Journey Home is out on Xbox, PS4 and Steam already and is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. It is one I recommend checking out.

Ion Maiden

If you are fan of retro arcadey shooters, then you will love Ion Maiden. It’s fun and fast paced with a wide variety of weapons to dispatch monsters. The combat is smooth and fun. It will be out second quarter this on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Check it out!

This is an anime roguelike that takes place after Ragnarok.  Yggdrasil is looking for new guardians so it is taking women from various points of time and space to serve as valkyries. As you progress with through the story of each valkyrie, the story of their past unfolds. While the specific women potrayed have not been revelaed, I was told they are famous women and will be recognizable. At launch, it will have two characters but they want to add three more with imput from the community. It features an overall level up system with items despawning after each playthrough. The games looks amazing and the combat looks fluid. This is one I can’t wait to play! Unfortunately, there is no release date yet but keep your eyes out for it.

Vigil: The Longest Night

This is a 2D Metroidvania full of monsters. The worl is always at night, but a member of the nightwatch named Layla starts having dreams of daylight coming to the world. The game looks amazing and should be on the radar of metroidvania fans. It will be out on Steam later this year.

Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption

This game has been out for a while. It is a 3D boss fighting game in which the protagonist Adam faces the embodiment ofthe 7 Deadly Sins. The 7 Deadly Sins can be defeated in any order, but after defeating each one Adam must select one thing to give up. This could be giving up armor or decreasing the strength of his weapons. As you defeat the deadly sins, Adam pieces together the story of how he destroyed a nation. This game is difficult so if you enjoy a challenge give Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption a shot. It is available on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

Bless Unleashed

This an upcoming free to play MMORPG developed by Bandai Namco. There are 5 playable classes and 4 playable races. Bless Unleashed is one of the best looking MMORPGs i have ever seen. The combat uses a button combos and special abilities. The combos can be used to in a variety of ways to take out your opponents. Bless Unleashed doesn’t have a firm release date yet but it is a Xbox One exclusive. I am very excited for this game! Keep an eye for more details as they come out.

ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove!

I remember playingthe original Toejam & Earl onthe Sega Genesis. I never knew what I was doing back then, but I remember liking the game. When I had the chance to play the reboot I had to take advantage of it. It’s as full of funky sillyness as the originals were.  It turns out, the goal is gather parts to your ship so you can leave the planet you are marooned on. I really enjoyed this game and it made me laugh. I really like games that don’t take themselves to seriously and can make people laugh. This is one I will spend a lot of time on.

I first saw this game on a Nindies showcase and thought it looked different but I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. I’m glad I gave it a shot. It’s part platformer part bullet hell. Early one, you find two pistols. You can lock one pistol intoa set position and more the other one freely. This is useful when you have enemies coming from both sides. There is also a talking banana. I think it’s your conscience. It’s weird but it works. I really like this game and can’t wait for it to come out. If you have a Nintendo Switch, you won’t want to sleep on this one.
